Emotion Prep
The pre-scene or pre-show practice of arriving with a committed emotional state — not neutral, but charged — so the first line of the scene has weight.
Known for
- Common drill: backstage, pick an emotion, physicalize it (posture, breath, tempo), walk out with it already in the body.
- Counter to the 'play it safe / arrive neutral' intermediate instinct — neutral openings usually produce neutral scenes.
- Napier's version: 'change your body before you come on stage' — explicit pre-entrance choice.
