The Joker (Boal)
Also known as Coringa
The facilitator role in Forum Theatre — neither director nor actor, but the person who holds the space between the stage and the spect-actors.
Known for
- Named in Boal's *Games for Actors and Non-Actors* (1992).
- The Joker explicitly does not take a position — they keep focus on the non-actors and refuse to tell spect-actors whether their intervention 'worked.'
- Distinct from a Harold director or improv coach: the Joker's authority is about structure, not craft.
