Object-First Initiation
An opening built around a single, specific object handled in silence or near-silence — the scene then discovers itself through how players relate to the object.
Known for
- Classic pedagogical use: 'here's a letter on the table, nobody has spoken yet.' What the players do with the letter reveals everything.
- Teaches restraint — the object is allowed to do narrative work that dialogue would collapse.
- Spolin roots — space-object exercises were often initiation training.
