Rainbow of Desires
Boal's later 'introspective' Theatre of the Oppressed technique — used for internalized oppression rather than external, developed during his European exile.
Known for
- Origin book: *The Rainbow of Desire: The Boal Method of Theatre and Therapy* (1995, Routledge; trans. Adrian Jackson).
- Developed when Boal worked in France, Germany, and Sweden — where external political oppression was less visible than internal psychological oppression.
- Uses multiple actors to externalize the conflicting desires inside one person ('screen images' of the antagonist, counter-images of the protagonist).
- Working title was *Cop in the Head*; his publisher said no one would buy a book with that name.
