A performer stepping outside the scene to narrate action in third person, commenting on or advancing what the characters are doing.
Known for
- Central device in narrative longform (Tall Tales, The Movie, The Documentary).
- Allows the narrator to reveal interior monologue, jump time, or foreshadow — impossible from inside the scene.
- Different from scene painting, which establishes environment; narration advances plot or reveals character.
