Forward Reverse
1988-present ยท UK / US
Also known as Forward/Reverse, Forward Rewind, Rewind
Two players perform a scene while the host calls 'Reverse!' to make them replay their words and actions backward, or 'Forward!' to resume, jumping the scene back and forth like a tape.
Known for
- A Whose Line constraint game testing recall: on 'Reverse' the players retrace dialogue and blocking in exact reverse order.
- Distinct from Quick Change and New Choice (which replace a line): here nothing changes except the direction of time.
- Comedy comes from precise rewinding and from the host stacking rapid forward and reverse calls.
- Trains physical and verbal memory, because sloppy reversals break the illusion.
