Word Ball
1980s-present
Also known as Ball Pass, Association Ball
Circle warm-up: players pass an imaginary ball across the circle while saying an associated word to the receiver; receiver associates again and passes to a new player.
Known for
- Free association with physical commitment — the imaginary ball forces eye contact and specificity.
- Variants: 'First thing that comes to mind' (pure association) vs 'Last Letter' (linguistic constraint).
- Trains the improv-fundamental 'don't judge your first thought.'
