Image Theatre
A Boal form that uses the human body to create still images of oppression and desired reality — no words, bodies only, posed and re-posed by the group.
Known for
- Group sculpts one participant into an image of their oppression, then into an image of liberation, then into the transition between them.
- Often used as a warm-up or diagnostic step before Forum Theatre.
- Boal argued the body holds political truth that words censor — Image Theatre makes that truth visible without language.
