Late for Work
1980s-present
Also known as Excuses, Late for the Meeting
One player is the boss; another arrives late and invents an excuse; optionally the audience or other players mime clues behind the boss so the latecomer must improvise a story matching the mimed events.
Known for
- 'Mimed version': hidden teammates mime a backstory the latecomer can't see but must incorporate.
- Teaches backfilling — making invented excuses accommodate surprise inputs.
- Low-stakes classroom favorite because the premise is self-explanatory.
